The Music Man

The quintessential American musical, Meredith Willson's The Music Man rocks the rafters of the Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake July 7-24. The Broadway hit play, set in 1912 fictional River City, Iowa, has endured over the decades as Willson's valentine to his boyhood Iowa hometown. The story revolves around smooth–talking salesman Prof. Harold Hill who decides to give Iowa a try at pitching his latest scam, a boys band. Seems the youth of the town have fallen prey to the evils of pool playing and ragtime, and only a boys band can save the town's sons and daughters from moral decay. But it's Harold Hill who soon finds out that only the the love of the town librarian Marian can save him. Memorable songs include "Seventy–six Trombones," "Trouble," and "'Til There Was You." From the barbershop harmonies of the school board to the high spirited dancing of the teens, The Music Man delivers an exhuberant evening of musical theater brighter than any 4th of July fireworks.

Principals in the cast are John Marshall of Gorham as Prof. Harold Hill and Karen Stickney of Hollis as Marian Paroo. The director is Bruce Avery.
