This July at Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake audiences are discovering
"Something Familiar, Something Peculiar, Something for Everyone, a Comedy
Tonight!" The Roman laugh riot A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum runs July 10-27 Wed.-Sat. at 8 PM and Sun. at 5 PM.
Stephen Sondheim's first Broadway score sparkles in this golden cup of classic
schtick comedy.
While Domina, the Roman matron of the House of Senex is away visiting Mother,
her only son Hero falls for the perfect girl, Philia. Sadly, Philia
is from the not so perfect House of Lycus, a procurer of oh so lovely courtesans.
To make matters worse for Hero, virgin Philia has already been sold to Miles
Gloriosus, Roman warrior extraordinaire. Pseudolus, Hero's faithful slave
and companion, wants only one thing - to be free. To win his freedom, he promises
Hero that he'll do anything to see that boy gets girl. The chain of frenetic
mix-ups and chases that ensue deliver hysterical laughs for everyone.
The local cast of seasoned veterans and talented newcomers features Steve
Lupien of South Portland as Senex, Mindy Paterson of Windham as
Domina, Andy Sawyer of Greene as Hero, Janelle LoSciuto
of Windham as Philia, Bruce Avery of Standish as Pseudolus, Dennis
Healy of Limerick as Hysterium, Mark Miller of Baldwin as Lycus,
and John Marshall of Gorham as Miles Gloriosus. Forum
is directed by Bruce Avery, SAD 6 School Board director as well as
director of last summer's Schoolhouse sell-out Sound of Music. Peter Stickney,
Music Director at Massabesic HS, does double duty as musical director and
conductor of the five piece orchestra. Jeff Toorish of Gray is choreographer
and assistant director. With its "Pantaloons and Tunics, Courtesans
and Eunuchs, Funerals and Chases, Baritones and Basses," Forum is
a show not to be missed.
Reserve your tickets early by calling Schoolhouse Arts Center at 642-3743
