Schoolhouse Arts Center Announces New Location and Performance Center
After 36 years in the town of Standish, Schoolhouse Arts Center has announced that they are
exploring options for a potential move to Westbrook! They have been engaged with city officials
to find the perfect location for their new home.
Artistic Director, Kristofer Kauff explains “This move reflects our continued dedication to
engage the community, provide meaningful educational programing, and provide top-notch
professional entertainment. We aim to be a beacon of inspiration, expanding performances,
educational programs, and community events. No matter where our home is, our heart remains
the same—focused on fostering connections through the performing arts.”
Board President Greg Pomeroy told a group of supporters “As we embark on this exciting
journey, we remain deeply grateful for the support from the town of Standish, our loyal patrons,
members, donors, volunteers, and artists who made Schoolhouse a beloved institution.” Though
this is in early stages, Greg talked about working with the city of Westbrook “We’re deeply
grateful for the warm welcome from city officials and the community”.
Westbrook’s vibrant growth and visionary leadership make it an exciting new home for
Schoolhouse. Westbrook’s Mayor, David Morse says “As we pursue growing the cultural assets
in our City, it has been really great getting to know the Schoolhouse Arts team, and to hear all the
unique ways they will be adding to the creative community in Westbrook. I look forward to
growing this partnership, and anxiously await the day I can buy my season pass.”
Board member and new Capital Campaign Chair Tommy Johnson told the group “We invite all
our loyal supporters and new friends across the state to help us create a dynamic arts and
educational center which will serve the greater community and our state for generations to
come.”
Schoolhouse is excited to bring the legacy, the heart and soul of what has made this theatre
community so great to city of Westbrook.
